Story Edit

Does your story work? Is the plot compelling? How easy will it be to do well? This edit evaluates the big picture and gives you an objective analysis of its strengths and weaknesses. Core story elements such as tense, POV, plot, characters, conflict, theme, and setting will be assessed.
If your idea has fourteen POV characters and eleven planets, crafting a good story will be challenging, no matter how much you love the world!
Charge: $499 (US dollars)

Developmental Edit

Does this growth arc work? How is the pacing? Does a character need more depth? Does the dialogue flow? These are questions answered by a developmental edit. Similar to a story edit, it addresses core elements such as plot and character, but it is much more granular and comprehensive. As a result, this type of evaluation is time-consuming for the editor and will take six to eight weeks to complete.
Charge: $0.06/word (US dollars)

Copy and line editing

How does this paragraph feel? Should this be two paragraphs or one? Is this section clunky? Copy editing deals with consistency, accuracy, and the rules of grammar, while line editing focuses on an author’s voice and syntax. A line edit determines how the words flow and feel to the reader.
Our editors follow the Chicago Manual of Style.
Charge for copy edit: $0.04/word (US dollars)
Charge for line edit: $0.04/word (US dollars)

iterative editing

Did this fix the problem? How did the new scene work? In some cases, you might struggle to find a solution to an issue that an editor noticed. Iterative editing is designed to provide three revisions of the same chapter/scene, so you can be confident with your approach!
Charge: $0.09/word (US dollars)

Proofreading

Are the lines too far apart? Why is there a single word on that page? Is the header supposed to look like that? A proofread is the final evaluation before the book is sent to the printer. Minor changes are expected at this stage, but no rewrites.
Charge: $0.02/word (US dollars)

Our Process

Workflow

– Initial assessment
– Submission of a sample chapter
– Return feedback to author along with an editorial contract
– Submission of contract and materials
– Send deliverables to author

Initial Assessment

What type of edit does your manuscript need? Are you at the idea stage? Have you already revised the text following a developmental edit? This consultation establishes how we can help push your project forward.
We all love our work, but a first draft is rarely suitable for proofreading.

Submission of a Sample Chapter

To ensure the best possible outcome, we strongly recommend you allow us to edit a sample chapter. This enables accurate pricing and confirms that we meet your expectations.
The story edit does not require a sample chapter. They might not exist!

Initial Feedback

During this stage, you will receive editorial comments along with an editorial contract. If you are satisfied with the work and the terms of the contract, return the signed contract.

Submission of Materials

During this stage, you will receive feedback along with an editorial contract. If you are satisfied with the work and the terms of the contract, return the signed contract.

Deliverables Sent to Author

Editorial assessments are delivered to the author. Depending on the type of edit, these can take the form of in-line comments, a separate evaluation of strengths and weaknesses, or a combination of analyses.

Timeframe

Although the timeline depends on the type of edit and the manuscript itself, a few general guidelines apply. A developmental edit often requires six to eight weeks, but a story edit can be returned in seven days.

Tools We Use

Humans. Neither your manuscript nor our assessment will ever be uploaded into an LLM. Period.
